Thanks to the internet, your ideal client need not live in your city, county or even your country!
Clients who are new to world of using Virtual Support may initially feel apprehensive sharing their information with a VA, and even more so when working with somebody in a different part of the world. However, I work with long standing clients across the globe, and even though we have never met in person, we have built a great rapport and our remote processes work seamlessly!
Communication is key
Weekly video calls are wonderful not only for accountability, but for building great working relationships! It's important to establish a new client's preferences for communication and which platforms they prefer to use. For the day to day I use instant messaging such as Whatsapp or Slack for instant alerts.
Time zone
Something to bear in mind when working with international clients is the time zone. It is important to establish what type of work is required and what turnaround times your client requires. I set up different time zones on my calendar so that I am always on top of things.
Sharing passwords
Sharing private info is easy via an encryption site such as Lastpass, in the same way as you would with local clients.
Contracts
Make sure that your contracts are legally reflective of your client's country law.
Payments
Transferwise is great if you are paying in a different currency than the person is receiving. It shows you right away what the conversion is and how much money you are going to get- and the transfer fees are tiny!
It's brilliant working with international clients, and adds value to both parties' businesses. You learn about different ways of working and different platforms that you may not have been exposed to otherwise.
