Are you starting out in business and forced into the terrifying predicament of having to post about your product or services online? Are you feeling like a total narcissist? I hear ya!
I am in the very early stages of creating my Virtual Assistant business- PA Queen and that means networking, Facebook, Twitter and posting about my business on all the social media etc. Yikes! That is terrifying, right? Wrong, it's necessary! Promoting a service such as a Virtual Assistant is basically promoting yourself and your skill-set and my inner child is cringing hard. Bleugh!
Nobody wants to be that person that talks about their own stuff all the time- what a narcissistic bore. But realistically your business is very rarely going to promote itself and if you are working alone, then no one else is going to do it for you.
The first tweet I sent under my new business handle was something very simple such as 'just setting up my twitter'. I agonised and debated what to put, then went bright red and had palpitations, I was literally borderline panic-attack! But then I sent it, and nothing bad happened, in fact, I actually got some nice messages!
Here are 5 tips to help you put your big girl pants on and get over those feelings of being embarrassed- so you can get on with promoting your business!
TIP 1
Don't feel EMBARRASSED! Feel EMPOWERED! You are starting your own business. Lots of people would be afraid, but you my friend are being brave and going against conformity- shout it from the rooftops! More importantly, shout it out across social media. Tell people you are here! There will always be someone that wants to pull you down but if you listened to all of them you'd never get anywhere, and really do you want to live your life to their tune? ERM- NOPE!
TIP 2
Remember that this is a vital step in promoting your business! You can create massive exposure for your brand and reach people that you will never meet in your day to day life! Pretty exciting when you think about it. If you are doing this solo, no one else is going to promote it for you (unless you are paying someone else to do it- and really where is the fun in that- you'll never face your fears)!
TIP 3
You aren't showing off, you are just stating facts! If you found a great *insert great thing here*, you would have no hesitation in telling people about it and spreading the good news! What if it was a friend's business? You'd be bigging that bad boy up for sure and telling everyone how great it was- because you want them to be successful! So forget about YOU for a moment, get out of your own way and just tell people about the great service or product that you have knowledge of!
TIP 4
It could be fate! Someone out there could be looking for someone or services just like you or yours, but have no idea that you or your product exists! You are kind of being selfish by not sending your message out there.
TIP 5
Think like a celebrity! They are constantly promoting themselves and bringing awareness to their brand, and people just look up to them and want to buy into their lifestyle. That could be you if you start promoting yourself!
